In March of 2023 I bushwacked through a small portion of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in the area of Kamas and Oakley, Utah. In some places, the snow was at least knee deep. In one instance I was trapped in chest deep snow. Luckily, after some time I was able to free myself and continue down the mountainside. Later that day there were blizzard conditions, so I'm grateful I was able to get down the mountain before the weather worsened.

I had a very wide angle lens on my camera, and when I raised it to my eye I was struck by how other worldly the pure white snow and small juniper trees looked on the long bending horizon line. I hiked back down a few steps so that I could angle myself in order to get the sun into the frame and the beginning of a downward bend of the horizon as it exits out of the right edge of the frame.

After growing up in a somewhat rural area I decided a change of scenery was in order, so I moved to New York City where I studied photography. My professional career didn't begin until after college, where I worked photographing architecture and construction sites as well as the occasional portrait. I've always been interested in telling stories whether it's the story of a place, a person or simply describing a moment.
