If we are to think about the physical object that we call a painting, and we deconstruct it to its fundamental parts, then a painting is nothing more than media applied to a medium. Now, this normally takes the form of some type of pigment bearing substance such as oil, or acrylic, or ink being applied to canvas, or board, or paper. Why then are we stuck thinking that a "print" from a photograph is a print, a "less-than" painting? To me it is simply a more efficient, more reliable way of applying media to medium. It is this thought that lead me to call these abstract photographs, paintings. They may exclude the physical evidence of the "presence of the artists hand" but they were made in the age of increasingly digital existence, they were created from with the limitations of the sight of the camera. They rely on what must have been present (e.g. the forms, hues, textures, etc...) in order to be altered later on by the artist. There are no digital texture overlays, there is no digital painting, there is simply multiple exposure techniques being applied to real-worl objects and forms. These images often represent the fracturing of time and space to create new spacial qualities and emotional experiences. Their inspiration, more often than not, comes from music. Sometimes specific songs conjure up visuals while other times these images represent only mere elements of music making.
