Description
I once heard that one of the greatest tools a photographer has at their disposal is the turn-around. When you are driving along and you see something that you think you want to make a picture of...that's when you turn around. You don't just drive right past it. You'll be haunted by the images that could have been. The same power lies in the "stop" tool as well.
Here is yet another instance of why I use the stop when I can. This image was made while Jess and I were driving in Utah from Oakley out to Moab. We were caught in several small snowstorms along the way out of Oakley. The snow was very thick, and the road was elevated, slippery, and winding with the occasional drop-off and a lake below. There were not too many places to stop, but there also were not many other cars on the road. This time, when I pulled off the road I could already hardly see the mountain. But I liked that about it. Such a solid, imposing object being given a sense of lightness, almost transparency. The snow had reduced the solidity and weight of the rock somehow, and left it almost floating there on the side of the road.
