Description
In March of 2023 I bushwacked through a small portion of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in the area of Kamas and Oakley, Utah. In some places, the snow was at least knee deep. In one instance I was trapped in chest deep snow. Luckily, after some time I was able to free myself and continue down the mountainside. Later that day there were blizzard conditions, so I'm grateful I was able to get down the mountain before the weather worsened.
In this image a stump of Utah Juniper (Juniperus osteosperma) floats in the pure white snow. The texture of the wood is what drew me to make this photograph. I knew the wood was dry, and yet the texture of the bark suggested a flowing river.
